What is Tai Chi (Taiji)

Tai Chi (taiji), short for t'ai chi ch'üan (taijiquan; 太极拳), is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both its defense training and its health benefits. The term taiji refers to a philosophy of the forces of yin and yang, related to the moves. Though originally conceived as a martial art, it is also typically practiced for a variety of other personal reasons competitive wrestling in the format of pushing hands (tui shou), demonstration competitions, and achieving greater longevity. As a result, a multitude of training forms exist, both traditional and modern, which correspond to those aims with differing emphasis. Some training forms of tàijíquán are especially known for being practiced with relatively slow movements.

Today tai chi has spread worldwide. Most modern styles of tai chi trace their development to at least one of the five traditional schools: Chen, Yang, Wu (Hao), Wu, and Sun. All of the former, in turn, trace their historical origins to Chen Village.

HEAD OF THE SCHOOL

Greetings, I'm Ovanes Budakyan, and my journey into the world of martial arts began in the vibrant city of Plovdiv. It all started back in 1985 when I took my first steps in Kyokushin karate during my school years. Guided by my father, I embarked on a path that would shape my life.

The years from 1985 to 1996 witnessed my exploration of various martial arts systems, each leaving its unique imprint on my journey. From the dynamic moves of Shaolin to the precision of Boxing, the discipline of Okinawan Karate, the throws of Judo, and Da Dao – I absorbed the essence of each practice.

In 1996, my attention was captivated by the profound world of Qigong. Two years later, in 1998, I found myself immersed in the graceful art of Tai Chi(Taiji), a practice that has become a constant companion in my life ever since.

Today, my passion lies in developing and popularizing traditional Chen style Tai Chi (TaiJi) here in Bulgaria. I share my knowledge through weekly classes and personalized lessons, aiming to make the beauty of Tai Chi accessible to all. Beyond regular sessions, I actively engage in presentations and contribute to seminars, drawing upon my extensive practical and teaching experience.

My expertise extends to training diverse groups, both children and adults, spanning from beginners taking their first steps into the world of Tai Chi(Taiji) to advanced students seeking continuous growth. Whether your goal is to enhance your health or embark on a journey of self-deface, I am here to guide you through the enriching practice of traditional Chen style Tai Chi (TaiJi).
